Twisted poltergeist love like Savannah heat

My favorite camera is an old 35 mm that my sister rescued from a consignment shop two years ago. The camera is beyond broken– film door taped shut, no light meter and a finicky frame counter–but I decided to take it out yesterday for a spin.
With every click of the shutter I hoped I wouldn’t get the negatives back black and useless, images lost to the unmetered light, but the camera’s imperfections grounded what I should have known:
Even the most broken things can be beautiful– drenched just right with Savannah heat.

Last week, before I left London for my non-European vacation, a few friends and I went to Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park. It was classic festival misery–hot, cold, hot, rain, death, mud, hot, cold, hot–but the music (oh, the music) was brilliant.
For one more video of the lovely Johnny Flynn, go here. For festival photographs, here.
